Shorin Ryu
Shorin Ryu Kempo
One of the differences in this system is how the student is taught to punch. There is no horizontal punch in the Shorin Kempo that I study. Our punches are almost vertical, slightly canted to the inside, thereby lining up the bones of the arm and creating a more stable and powerful strike.
Description of Shorin Ryu
Shorin-ryu is a major modern Okinawan martial art founded by Choshin Chibana who made several distincitve developments and changes to elements of the Okinawan martial art Shuri-te and combined it with what he had learned from Chinese martial arts. He was a student of Anko Itosu, the great master of Shuri-te. By and by, Chosin Chibana started developing a style of his own and eventually in 1933 decided to name it Shorin-Ryu in honor of Chinese Shaolin.
