Description of Choi Kwang-Do
Choi Kwang Do has a very interesting story of origin. It is a fluid and flexible martial art that employes yoga-based stretching for its practitioners. It was developed by Kwang Jo Choi in 1987 after he was unable to continue with Tae Kwon Do because of his injury with his training.He was so injured, he was unable to continue practicing Tae Kwon Do. This caused him to undergo rehabilitative exercises. He then combined the techniques he learned from various seminars and rehabilitation procedures and incorprated it to form his own fighting style. From there, the Choi Kwang Do was developed.
Choi Kwang Do primarily focuses on motion. It involves principles of biomechanics, kinesiology and psychology to create natural and fluid movement with optimum force on a designated targets without pressuring the practitioner's joints. It also applies the breathing and stretching exercises from yoga. However, due to its nature, although it is considered to be a martial art, Choi Kwang Do is not designed for competition.
